Work outs 09-17

Fire Chief worked a nice 3/8ths out of the gate, and galoped out in 49.2. Nuclear Meltdown burned up the track, in hand, alone. Cohen also breezed alone today. He paddock schooled last weekend, coming back to the barn on his toes, and we'll school him again this weekend.

Nuclear Meltdown is a Cover Girl

[click to enlarge. use your back button to return]

That's Nuclear Meltdown on the cover of the Kentucky Enquirer under exercise rider Ariel Al Mada . We're very pleased with how this filly is coming along. She worked a handy 3/8ths in 36 and change this morning.
Ariel is originally from Argentina, a country widely known for producing good horsemen. He has a talent for relaxing the horses under tack and a great work ethic, making him a valuable member of the Secor Racing Stables team.

Xela - What a Race!

6 Furlongs 3 Year Olds And Up Allowance Purse: $41,790

Times in 100ths: :22.28 :45.47 :57.37 1:09.70

In tight traffic at the head of the stretch, about four lengths back, Xela exploded when asked, and had to angle sharply in to get around a horse, then straighten out and bear down on the leaders. One of those leaders was Liberty Bull, winner of $403,592 lifetime including the $600K WinStar Derby and the Smarty Jones handicap.

Xela was second in the photo by a head bob, just a head bob, bringing his 2008 earnings to over $85,000.

We're telling him he won.

What a race horse.

Work outs today

Xela, a half in 47, in hand, no stick, no company, easy as pie.

And we got

Crawford County, five-eighths in 59.4, out in 1:12.1 . She wanted more.

Cohen and Fire Chief went together, in hand, a half in a nice 48.4.

Two year old Jacqueline continues to please us. She's training well. And we like what Nuclear Meltdown is showing us.

We've got some video we hope to share with you soon.

Crawford County OWNS July

Xela ran a huge third to Dominion (winner of the 2007 Grade 1 Bluegrass stakes, and runner in the 2007 Kentucky Derby) up at Presque Isle Downs, but the month of July belongs to "Cindy Crawford" (Crawford County).

Presque Isle is being slow to share the win photos, but this little filly showed what she's made of.

In her first start for us, she broke her maiden, in a $35.000 Maiden Special Weight going 5 1/2 furlongs. (click on the charts to enlarge, and use your back button to come back)

Then she came back on the 31st, and ran a mile in an Allowance race for fillies and mares, three years old and up, with a $38.000 purse. (click to enlarge)

She didn't even look back!

Here's her lifetime past performances, so far (click to enlarge) -

She's resting on her laurels and getting ready for her next start.

We'll post her win photos as soon as we get them.

May and June

In May, Xela ran in an allowance race at Churchill, finishing a game third, under a ride that was not quite to his liking. That made him mad, and so he went up to Arlington and ...

Meanwhile, stablemate Crawford County was showing some nice speed in her works, and was getting ready to run herself.
